The First Year Challenges: Persevering in an Algorithmic World

The Healthy Yogini ® has been reaching people for 1 full year! Yay! 😊

They always say starting is the hardest part and even though it took me 10 years to launch, I’m proud to finally be sharing my journey of a holistic alternative to caring for your kidneys. 💕

This first year was unexpected…the journey led me on a bumpy road of detours, road blocks, and traffic jams amongst rude drivers.

But that is all in the past now; I’ve made it to the other side more knowledgeable and stronger to step into Year #2

You’re probably sitting on the edge of your seat wondering, “Umm Bethany, do tell.”

I have not shared the challenges because I feel I will be perceived as unprofessional.

But before I turn the page, I think it is important to politely tell the tale. Not to gossip; to empower fellow business owners.

The blessing of technology ended up being a curse for me.

I had to change web designers three times due to quitting, being ghosted, and scammed. After three tries, I ended up deciding to do things myself. In return, I’ve learned a lot about technology and feel more empowered running the brand.

These challenges rattled my emotions. There were times late at night when the tears started to fall and I felt so alone. I was working hard to create inspiring content that no one was seeing because of Meta’s algorithm. I got through this by not playing what I call “The Meta Game”; I trust a higher power knowing who is meant to see my content, will.

After meeting with a software company, I learned how algorithms now control who connects with others and who stays on the side lines…which is really sad. The Healthy Yogini ® was rejected by this software company because “You don’t have enough followers to support the algorithm, but it’s so good what you're doing, wow, that's really nice.”

Knowing that I am a nice person, only doing good in the world lit a fire in me and ignited a drive: internally and literally. Everywhere I went, I posted The Healthy Yogini ® postcards. Some businesses were very supportive, some shut the door, and one well known eatery threw them away.

Rejection is God’s protection and my anchors are the ones who have walked the path before me: Joy Mangano, Martha Stewart, Jamie Kern Lima, and…all of you!

A month ago, I ran into one of my subscribers asking when I was returning because they really looked forward to the recipes. This brought me so much joy!

I’m going to keep going into Year #2 for all of you, blocking out the noise the tech-world brings and focusing more on in-person connection.

Technology makes our lives easier, but it creates physical and emotional distance.

So I encourage you to find connections in person and nostalgia moments that create lasting memories.

And to not stress the one kidney I have, I invite you to remember this quote:
